Exciting news! I'm an ABC Ambassador!
Hello all! I want to kick off this blog with some exciting news: I’ve been selected to become an ambassador for Athletic Brewing Company for 2020!
I’ve never been an ambassador before, and I can’t wait to get started. I have to wait a few weeks for everything to be official (January 1), but it’s going to be a good year. My goal is to participate in as many events as I can, mainly cycling, but I do want to do a 5K or two. I haven’t been running much lately, so that’s going to be quite the challenge.
My big fundraising goal is going to be for Bike MS. The ride benefits the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, and it’s two days with just shy of 200 total miles. I picked this charity for my Aunt Patty, who had MS. She often couldn’t afford her medication, and it was heartbreaking. She would sometimes message me just to share some thoughts and kind words, and to vent a little bit of course. I wish that I could have done more for her. She passed away in 2012 after a hard-fought battle with breast cancer and MS. I’m glad I got to see her before she left us; she was a huge inspiration to me and was always so very kind while I was growing up.
In October, we held a fundraiser for the Wyoming Beast Cancer Awareness Initiative at our local Gold’s Gym in Cheyenne. It was fun to ride with an amazing group of people and to raise some money for the cause. And I kept my dear aunt in the back of my mind for the entire 2.5 hours on the spin bike, which, let me tell you, is no easy task! But we do it for those who are carrying or who have carried a far greater burden.
That ride inspired me to continue using my legs and my bike to help out. I can’t do much, but I can do something. And I’m happy to have a new venue of visibility to make it all happen!
So, for 2020, let’s do some good things together to change the world. It may not be huge, and it may not feel like enough, but it’s going to mean the world to someone out here, someone who we may or may not know, someone who may be here in the present or benefit far in the future.
