Bike MS/Ride for Sight
Today I participated in the Ride for Sight, a Cheyenne classic. I didn’t do the full century because my quads are not in the best place right now, but I did ride just under 74 miles.
I used this opportunity to do the Virtual Bike MS ride, so it was kind of a combo. I’m also ending my fundraiser for Bike MS. I’m so thankful for those of you who supported me and my goal to help raise money for MS research/treatment. It means the world to me and my family.
Those of you who have followed me from the beginning know that I started this training for the Bike MS ride. It was going to be the longest two-day event I’ve ever done, so I started training a while back … December I think is when my TrainerRoad plan began.
Coronavirus happened, and I dug even deeper into training because I had nothing better to do. I then got hooked on the idea of participating in the Athletic Brewing ride, and the rest is history!
Today’s ride was really good. The weather was gorgeous and the spirits were happy all around! I helped set up a little the night before. We spray-chalked the big X marks and put up signs so that we could social distance.
I biked to the park and got there just in time for the first wave to start. I didn’t plan on doing it, but Heidi was like come on! There was space, so I went for it.
I turned around in the tiny town of Horse Creek to head back. A wind kicked up out of nowhere, it seemed like, so it was a headwind all the way back. Not the most fun, especially on tired legs. My body felt amazing, my quads — not so much!
But that’s to be expected. I’ve been training hard, and I’m finally hitting my taper. With 3 weeks till go time, it’s time to let my legs and body heal, and shed some stress and fatigue.
A lot has happened in the last 10 months. Plans and goals have changed. I think I’m ready!
There’s only one way to find out.
